Obituary

ODESSA Donald Baker, 53, best husband, dad, peep & brother passed from this life on Monday, March 17, 2008.

He was born to Frankie Baker on December 28, 1954, in Odessa, Texas. He was raised by his beloved grandparents, Della and Frank Brown in Monahans, Texas. He married the love of his life, LaVona (Allison) Baker on August 24, 1973, in Odessa, Texas. Together they had their most prized possessions: Son, James Baker and Daughter, Tanya (Baker) Bedrick. Just when they thought life could not get any better, James gave them 2 granddaughters and Tanya gave them 3 grandsons.

Night and day, he was the backbone of McLean & Sons Inc. of Odessa for over 30 years. When he was not working, he loved to attend the grandkids ball games and in his "spare" time, he loved watching cooking shows and experimenting with his culinary talent. Before his grandkids and discovering his culinary talent, he was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. He succeeded in overpowering his boss during a Cuba fishing trip when he won Champion Fisherman of the week by catching the biggest fish. Everyone that knew Donald could call on him day or night and he would be knocking at their door eager to help in any way possible whether it be physical work or emotional support. He was LaVona's rock and best friend.

Donald was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Della Brown, his mother, Frankie Baker Hall and his loving sister-in-law Donna Douglas.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, LaVona Baker, son, James Baker of Odessa; daughter, Tanya and husband, Luke Bedrick of Odessa; grandkids, Makayla and Cheyenne Baker, Caden, Coby and Caleb Bedrick; sister, Debbie Erskine of Midland; brother, Darren and wife, Doris Baker of Odessa; mother and father-in-law, Don and Fay Allison and numerous family and friends.

Family will welcome visitors on Thursday, March 20, 2008 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral home. His Celebration Service will be Friday, March 21, 2008 at 10 a.m. in the chapel at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with graveside services to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services will be officiated by Rev. Gary Douglas and Rev. Don Fankhauser.

Pallbearers are Darren Baker, Nils Allison, Rudy Rodriguez, Danny Walker, Tom Lovett and David Harris. Honorary pallbearers are Keith Stone, Matthew Allison, Jason Bushong, Gary Keese, Danny Hockett, Chris Hodge and Rudy Rodriguez, Jr.

Lord, thank you for giving him a heart of gold, a tender soul and so much compassion. So many have been blessed with memories of his life. We give the Lord thanks for the time he has given us with such a wonderful man. Peep will be greatly missed.

Birth:  Jan. 15, 1955
Fairbanks
Fairbanks North Star Borough
Alaska, USA
Death:  Dec. 28, 2004
Wimberley
Hays County
Texas, USA

Debbie Blakley, 49, passed through the veil to her Heavenly Father’s embrace surrounded by her family at her home on December 28, 2004, after a long and valiant battle with breast cancer.
Born Debra Dianne on January 14, 1955, to Kenneth McGee and Shirley Moncrief McGee in Fairbanks, Alaska, she was the third of four blond and bubbly daughters. She graduated from Permian High School in May 1973, and married the love of her life since ninth grade, Neil Blakley, on June 30, 1973. Neil and Debbie shared 31 years of marriage together and lovingly raised their three children with humor and devotion.
Debbie decorated her world and all those she touched with poignant beauty, grace, and design. As a master artist and muralist, she created breathtaking scenes that reflected a soul not bound by time nor space. Her home always provided inspiring samplings of her abundant talent as well as homes and businesses all over the country that have been blessed to become an enduring part of her legacy-some of which have been featured in Texas Monthly and. Better Homes and Gardens
Her art led her many directions throughout her career. Trained by the FBI, she was one of the very few and very elite composite artists that have been awarded a Federal Grant to work with various Texas police departments, particularly the Odessa Police Department, in solving numerous high profile cases. She was a nationally known courtroom artist and was even a feature story on Entertainment Tonight for her coverage of the Zsa Zsa Gabor trial.
In spite of her notoriety and high demand, Debbie never lost her love for simplicity. Life’s greatest pleasures were her family and friends. “The more the merrier,” she regularly said and no one could know Debbie and not adore her.
Debbie was preceded in death by both her parents. Among the great many who will miss her terribly are her husband, Neil Blakley of Wimberley; her daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and Byron Geyman of Austin; her sons, Clint Blakley of Houston and Bryan Blakley of Brady; and her sisters, Linda McCann and family of Tyler, Donna Walker and family of Odessa, and Pam White of Houston. Her family by marriage, Dennis Shirk and family of Kingston, Oklahoma, Brenda Sullivan and family of Mustang, OK, and Lanis Carlson and family of Midland.
Services will be held Friday, December 31, 2004, at Thomason Funeral Home in Wimberley with burial at Onion Creek Memorial Park in Austin, TX. Memorials may be sent to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston

I think I first met Debbie at Crockett.  I saw her, I believe at our 15 year reunion and chatted with her for a while.  I found out she had become an FBI trained forensic artist and had worked with several law enforcement agencies.  Someone told me later she had painted the beautiful mural at the Taco Bell in Midland. Very talented artist and overall sweet person.  I sure hated to hear of her passing.  Another one gone too soon.

Obituary

Karen Sue Ward, aged 64, went to be with our Heavenly Father on February 19, 2018  at home in Llano, Texas. Karen was born December 26, 1954 in Odessa Texas, the daughter of Jerry and Molly Cannon.

Karen could brighten any room with her contagious laughter. She found joy spending time with family, and friends. Karen could make any situation comical. She could laugh at anything and quite frequently herself. She had an unbroken bond with her twin, Kathy Light. Much like her beauty, she left a little piece every place she went. She was adventurous, curious, and had a vivacious soul.  Those who knew her close enough would say Karen had a strong spirit, soft heart, and a humble nature. Most importantly, she would tell any listening body how proud she was of her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her four children, Jason Ward of Denton Texas, Sheila Salazar of Midland Texas, Ginger Parum of Midland Texas, and Shawna Green of Meridian Idaho; her ex-husband John Ward; her 10 grand children an two great grandchildren; Her three sisters; her two dogs Oscar and Quigly.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Cannon, and her mother, Molly Cannon.

Karen’s memorial will be held on March 24, 2018 at American Heritage at 3pm. Close family will be there to greet any relative or friends.  In Lieu of flowers, her children are requesting to spend a day making memories with the ones you love.

What can I say about Kristi?  We were friends from the 8th grade at Crockett until she passed away.  I am still in shock over her death as I (and many of us) had just had a conversation with her on Facebook the night before she died.

Kristi and I both lived in Houston until she moved to a suburb. We didn't see each other often after that but we always stayed in touch and we even worked near each other in Sugar Land in the early 90s and would go have lunch together.

Judy Wise (Shields) and I attended her memorial service here in Houston.  Miss you dear friend.

Paula lived down the street from me for a while.  My little brother died when I was a sophomore and Paula would come over and get me to go do things to keep my mind off of it.  She was really a comfort to me during a difficult time and I never forgot it.  Was so sad to hear of her death.

Seems I knew Darwin forever...I admired Darwin...didn't matter how long it had been since last seeing him, he would always chat with me....Darwin, I miss that mischievious smile of yours!!!  (you and Gary Brooks stay out of trouble). :)

From Carlene Bryson on June 11th, 2014
I met Darwin in the 2nd or 3rd grade at Austin Elemtary. He reminded me of Dennis the Menace, always pulling pranks. In later years through junior high at Crockett and then at OHS I got to know him as a really nice person.  After I moved away from Odessa when I would come home to visit I would somehow always see him out somewhere and I always enjoyed seeing and talking to him at the reunions over the years.  I was just crushed when I found out about his cancer and was able to speak to him on the phone several times before he passed away and the last time I talked to him was about a month before he died. He was always upbeat even when he was so ill, but that wasn't really surprising.  Still miss him.

I hadn't seen Ginnye since high school, but ran across her in the late 90s on the Classmates.com site and we chatted back and forth some. When Facebook came out, I added her to my friend list but we never really spoke on there and I had no idea she was battling a terminal illness. It was really sad to hear of her passing. I remember her from Crockett Jr.High and as part of a little group that used to walk to different places for lunch when we were at OHS. She was such a sweet person and a talented ballet dancer.

Obituary

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=10910074

George Gary Tumlin, 52, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2005, in Weatherford.
He was born Nov. 15, 1952, in Odessa. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1973. Moving to Weatherford in 1975, he attended Weatherford Jr. College for two years and remained a resident of Weatherford for the rest of his life.
Gary was devoted to his two sons and his love for his family and friends was unwavering. Because of his love for and the relationship he had with the Lord Jesus Christ, Gary wanted a service at his passing to be one of celebration of this relationship, of his salvation and of his life.

The Lord gave Gary a true calling for a special musical witnessing ministry to people of all ages, especially to young people. Beginning in his early teens, Gary shared his testimony in words and songs in many churches, a prison ministry and even a trip to England, as part of his church’s mission. Gary was also associated with the Little People of America and led prayer and devotionals at many LPA meetings. He was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church of Weatherford. Even with failing health, Gary never ceased to witness for his Lord.

Gary was preceded in death by his father and mother, James Roy and Susie Marie Roberts Tumlin.
Gary is survived by his two sons, Stephen Matthew Tumlin and Timothy Paul Tumlin, both of Weatherford; two sisters, Deloris Jo Webb of Odessa, and Mary Smart and husband, Glenn, of Weatherford; one brother, Ken Tumlin and wife, Brenda, of Odessa; one niece; two nephews; one great-niece; and one great-nephew. Gary leaves a multitude of friends made and held dear for many years.
The family will receive guests from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Funeral services have been scheduled at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at White’s Chapel of Memories in Weatherford. Burial will follow at Community Greenwood Cemetery, west of Weatherford.
Pallbearers will be: Michael Smart, Cody Tumlin, Dustin Conklin, Greg Tankersley, Gary Peoples and Scott Maughan.

A trust fund has been set up at First National Bank of Weatherford, 220 Palo Pinto St., Weatherford, TX 760806, for Matthew and Paul Tumlin in the name of Mary Smart.
